One of the oldest cliches in the game is that "Cricket is a funny game". What we as a team did not find funny was the fact that we have never EVER been to the playoffs. Many find this unfathomable, and rightly so. We have always flattered to deceive every year. This year, however, under the leadership of Amar and completely supported by the team, we were determined to correct that. And we did, reaching the pre quarter finals of the T20 tournament for the Carolina Cricket League!!

As they say, we were now in the big league, playing with the big boys. and it doesn't get any bigger than our opponents in this round, our long time nemesis CLCC. They always seem to bring the best and worst out of us. The unforgettable victories have been too mixed between demoralizing defeats. The advantage this time was that we were full strength and playing at our home ground. CLCC chose to bat first, in the hope of setting a big score. They were dealt a huge blow early in the innings when their captain and star batsman Kirtan was run out by some alert fielding by Amit at point. From there on began an exhibition of new ball bowling by Zeeshan and Omer. Krunal was smartly caught by Damodar at long off. Omer then got rid of the dangerous Abhi Patel, caught by Mayur smartly at point. Sensing an opening, Amar brought on Mayur to attack their middle order, and he responded in kind. Jai was caught by smartly at slip By Dipen, one handed towards his left! We did not have any time to rest, as we know that players like AJ and Zee were still to come. We kept plugging away, and had them at 49/6! Ryan from CLCC was playing a lone fighting hand, hitting the very bad balls that we had on offer for runs. Unfortunately for them, WGCC was grasping every chance coming their way. When Tarun came on to bowl, CLCC tried to attack and regretted immediately as he wiped away the tail the way he does best, with searing yorkers. In the end, CLCC made a below average score of 122.

It's the kind of score that can be very tricky. So it was important we made a good start. Dipen and Mayur, however, were in their elements. They blasted away the famed CLCC attack out of the park. As many as 6 different bowlers were used in the first 6 overs. And each was treated with utter disdain. At the end of 10 overs, were 100 for no loss. In spite of the minor blip of losing Dipen and Amit in quick time, we still managed to chased down the score in 15.2 overs. Dipen hit a fantastic fifty to add to his burgeoning reputation as a top batsman in the league. In the end it was the all round show of Mayur, with his 4 wickets and a not out 64 that won us the match.

This victory not only took us to the quarter finals for the first time, it also showed everyone that we belong. It was the perfect performance and we deservedly went through. It shows us our potential and what we can achieve when we perform at our best. This is mounting up to be one hell of a season...
