by Mayur Choudhary After a couple of rainy days, our third match was under threat of being washed out, but the weather Gods smiled and sun was out after a gloomy and cloudy morning. Amar was at the ground earlier than everyone with his beloved "On-time tracker". After a small practice session at the Hobson ground nets, the team was raring to go. This was probably the longest batting line up (on paper) for WGCC, and a strong bowling attack. Amar won the toss and decided to make use of the pitch first. He walked in with Mayur to face the experienced bowling attack of HPCC. The disaster struck in the very first over when Amar failed to control a drive on the ground off Arif and was snaffled up my Manzoor at covers. WGCC was one down with no runs on board. Vicky walked in next to face the music and he got off the mark soon to calm the nerves. Mayur who was watching from the other end got the strike and he got things moving from the very first ball, a double followed by a fierce square cut for four. Next over by lanky Uzair saw another WGCC wicket fall down in the form of Vicky, who misjudged the length of a full ball and got bowled. It was time for Sinu to walk in who had been among runs last weekend. He started scoring at brisk pace and it looked like a partnership was building for WGCC. But, it was not to be, as he got out playing a square cut straight into the hands of Faisal at point. Mayur was next to go trying to clear the field off a full delivery from Salman. The corecard read 53/4 and WGCC was in big trouble. WGCC kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. Only noticeable contribution came from Sagar who made a patient 21 considering he was struggling to find people at the other end. Finally we ended up at 101 runs, all out in the 19th over. I must say it was a disappointing score considering the batting line up that had. |
