T20 WGCC vs CL March 25th, 2017 at Weston Park

posted Mar 28, 2017, 2:18 PM by Mayur Choudhary
Buoyed from two back to back victories WGCC was looking forward to their game against CL, which incidentally was their maiden game in CCL. The game was important for both the team for distinct reasons. For WGCC, a win would have taken them closer to qualifying for the playoffs and for CL, it was a chance to get their feet wet in the competitive Carolina Cricket League. Prashant Shinde, won his very first toss and invited WGCC to bat first. Amar and Mayur walked in with great intent and started the innings cautiously as the opening due from CL, Mohit and Thouhid was right on the money from the very first over. CL drew first blood with scoreboard reading 24, when Thouhid hurried Amar on the backfoot and hitting his pads, to be given out LBW by the umpire. This brought Dipen to the crease. After a watchful first few balls, Dipen just tore into the CL attack, scoring efficiently on both sides of the wicket. Mayur on the other hand was batting steadily, scoring boundaries intermittently. With Dipen and Mayur in the middle, runs were coming thick and fast. Dipen raised his first fifty of the season in the process. They had a 95 run partnership in quick time before Mayur got out trying to clear the extra cover fielder. Dipen was next to go skying a slow delivery form Prashant. Biv and Sinu started to rebuild. Biv was able to smash three sixes before he was out caught at long-off. Tarun was the next batsman in and he has a short stay at the crease. Gaba was next to go in and he got out after scoring a couple of boundaries. Snu was holding one end together, running hard and trying to score quick runs. WGCC finally managed 188 in their 20 overs.

Prashant and Imran started the pursuit of 189 runs against WGCC. Amar started the innings with Mayur as he wanted to test Prashant against spin. Prashant started cautiously and confidently scoring steadily. Biv and Prahsant Dixit were the next bowlers in the line up. Only thing consistent about WGCC bowling was that they were offering boundary balls every over and CL batsmen kept obliging. This allowed CL to score at 10 an over. Amar tried to stem the flow of runs but was not successful. Prashant brought up his half century and he gout out to Ashishs Gaba soon after. Mohit was the next man in and he started aggressively. The WGCC bowling was off colors, no matter who was bowling. Ashish Gaba was able to get Imran out caught at deep square leg. There was a brief period of time when WGCC bowlers thought they could pull the game back as the required run rate touched 11 but all credit to CL batsmen, who kept coming on hard at the bowlers and scoring boundaries at will. Arpit got the third wicket for WGCC and that brought Chetan to the middle. Him and Mohit were literally toying with the bowling  and the pair chased down the total with one over to spare. All credit to CL players for not panicking during the chase and this allowed them to register their first win in the T20 tournament.
