After almost a month long break from league games due to weather and long weekend, WGCC was eager to play some cricket and get into the W column. We were gearing up for a hot day of cricket with temperatures expected to hit mid 90s. CKCC (home team) won the toss and elected to field first, giving WGCC a chance to go out and put a big score on the board. After a quick team photo session, Amar and Prady opened WGCC innings. Both of them started cautiously, as boundaries were difficult to come by in the thick outfield. After a brief stint, Prady nicked one towards the point that resulted in an outstanding catch by John. Amar soon followed as he missed a good delivery on a perfect line and length that ended up knocking off his off stump. With WGCC reeling at 34/2, Dipen and Damodar started to stabilize the innings. Dipen looked in a good touch as he quickly scored 27 with four boundaries and a six only to succumb to a soft dismissal where he missed the line of a slower full length delivery and was bowled. Sinu soon followed as he edged one to the keeper leaving us at 64/4. WGCC had a good start with scoring rate hovering over 5 rpo but were loosing wickets at regular intervals, when Amit walked into bat and had different intentions. With Damodar on the other end, looking to stay for the long haul, Amit started his counter attack dispatching the bowlers with utter disdain. Boundaries and big sixes started flowing as the pair put up a partnership of 133 runs in 19 overs. Amit scored 70 in 60 balls and Damodar on the other end scored 58 off 73 (two 50s in a row for Damu). By the time they were done, they put WGCC in a prime position to put up a challenging total. Biv went in to bat in 32nd over and played his cameo that we have all been accustomed to witness on the regular basis as he blasted 20 runs in the last over. WGCC ended up scoring 232 runs for 8 wickets and looked confident at the break of the innings.

With a decent total to defend, Biv and Sagar came out bowling excellent line and length, not giving CKCC batsmen any bad balls to put away. Runs were only coming in the form of wild slog in the first few overs in which Biv sent two of their top order batsmen back to the dug out by dismantling their stumps. Amar, Prashant and Riyaz bowled few tight overs and managed to collect two more wickets that included a stunning grab by Sinu behind the wickets. CKCC was reeling at innings break down 4 wickets and another batsmen retired hurt due to heat stroke with only 70 odd runs on the board. As the batsmen stopped taking risk and slowly dragged the innings longer, Amar introduced Prady in the hopes of picking up some wickets and finish the game sooner on a hot day. Prady with his impeccable line and length was literally unplayable and with the combination of increasing required rate, CKCC gave away quick wickets to Prady (3 wickets). Tarun and Prashant cleaned up the rest of the line up and CKCC was sent packing with only 112 runs in response to our score of 232.

This was a much deserved victory with an all round team performance. The positives coming out of this game were definitely the batting of Amit and Damu that led us to playing the whole 35 overs along with a solid performance by everyone in the bowling unit. With next two games again on the road in Charlotte, we should try to capitalize on the momentum and hopefully get on a winning streak. Special thanks to Arpit and Tina for joining us and cheering us along especially to Arpit, who fielded when Biv took a brief break and Dipen got hurt.
